Public Interest Journalism Lab (PIJL), in cooperation with European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), announces a new Open Call for applications from Ukrainian independent media and journalists in 2026.
Who can apply:
independent regional media outlets and journalists from the regions that are most affected by the hostilities;
Ukrainian media outlets and journalists in different emergency situations.
Required conditions:
you should have the professional experience of not less than 2 years;
to be located and work on the territory of Ukraine;
to create your own, unique journalistic content of the public interest.
We give our priority to the media outlets operating in and near to the frontline areas, relocated newsrooms from temporarily occupied territories and combat zones and reporters regularly working in the high risk zones. In our selection, we give preference to the individual journalists whose work would be virtually impossible without this funding. The scholarships are not intended for those who simply seek a salary increase. When we receive applications from several staff members of the same newsroom, we usually communicate with the editor-in-chief, and the scholarship is most often allocated by newsroom leadership.
This is an opportunity to receive the support:
for media outlets: the scholarship of 900 Euro monthly with a total amount up to 7200 Euro, in UAH equivalent to the current currency exchange rate;
for individual journalists: the scholarship of 600 Euro monthly with a total amount up to 2400 Euro, in UAH equivalent to the current currency exchange rate.
The deadline for applications is on February 10, 2026.
